How To Be Holy With A Holy God
We have seen too many people who are seeking help, who really don’t want to turn from their ways. Whether it’s pornography, pride, or anger (to name a few) they feel justified in their situation. They don’t really want to turn away.

We serve a Holy God. There are creatures in heaven who do not rest day or night, saying, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come (Revelation 4:8 NKJV). Thank you, Lord! He is altogether different than us, and yet He wants to know us intimately. I wonder if the church takes seriously the holiness of God.
Let’s start with the meaning of the word. In the New Testament the Greek word used for holy is hagios. The word can refer to something (like an article used in the Temple) or someone (God or a follower of Jesus) that is set apart. It was meant to give a sense of reverence and awe.
And the one, true God is the one who is ultimately set apart on a different level.
Why is this important to us?
We need to deal with the junk in our lives. Does this mean we can never be forgiven or that our pasts will always haunt us? Far from it! When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of our mess and clean us from all of it (1 John 1:9)
But that does not give us the excuse to keep on living in our junk. The Bible talks about a dog returning to its own vomit and how that’s comparable to how a fool returns to his foolishness (see Proverbs 26:11 and 2 Peter 2:21-22). That’s pretty gross. But we are no different when we return back to something that we know is going to harm us.
Let’s rise to the challenge and not be like that. Let’s cry out to God to help us. And He will help us in time of need.
We are to be set apart as God is set apart. Lord, help us.
